The heart of the old city is the baroque Cathedral of Santa Maria della Madia.         The town boasts an extremely populated rural area, where in most of the 138 districts the pattern of the agglomeration of houses and trulli sharing a common space, called jazzile, is repeated, which allows people to live in pleasant neighborhood unity. Among holm oaks, remains of ancient woods, vegetable gardens, vineyards, expanses of olive trees, dry stone walls and majestic fragno trees, there are trulli, farmhouses and rural churches, often in ruins, always with the typical cummerse roof. The oldest trullo in Puglia, dating back to 1559 – date engraved on the lintel of the door – is located in one of these fascinating districts, Marziolla. In Lamie Fascinate the vineyards stand out against the background of ancient trulli and cummerse, and the Crocefisso and Serralta districts are also worth a visit, again for their trulli and cummersa buildings. In Pozzomasiello stands a splendid farm among the trees, at the bottom of the passaturo which in late spring peeps out with a thousand red poppies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

        The Blue Flag and the 5 Sails of Legambiente hover over the crystalline sea with a sandy bottom while along the beach there are small equipped beaches framed by the brown green of the scrub.         Located on the limestone plateau of the Terra dei Trulli e delle Grotte, it is known above all for the karst complex of the Castellana Caves. The caves of Castellana, extended for about 3 kilometers, open at 330 m below the sea level, less than 500 meters from the town of Castellana. The entire municipal area is characterized by limestone rocks essentially composed of calcium carbonate, mainly of the Altamura limestone type. The natural entrance to the caves is a huge sixty meters deep chasm called the Grave.<\/p>\n

We are in the Itria Valley, a World Heritage Site protected by Unesco.<\/p>\n
